Documentary Mini Family Photo Sessions in SE-London

Heartfelt images of the everyday moments that make your family yours.

For parents who value connection over perfection.

Family life rarely feels extraordinary while you’re in it. The days are full, sometimes repetitive, often messy, and always moving faster than you realise. School runs blur into weekends. Meals are made and cleared away. Conversations overlap. Laughter and frustration sit side by side.

And yet, within all of that, something meaningful is unfolding.

Your children are growing. Their expressions are changing. The way they reach for you, talk to you, move around you — all of it is quietly evolving.

These mini sessions are about holding onto what everyday life feels like right now, before it shifts again. I photograph your real life as it unfolds — in your home, in your local park, or in a place that already belongs to your routine.

Ready to create a time capsule of your family, as it is right now?

I knew I wanted to capture our family at this life stage, and I wanted our son’s personality to shine through as the main objective – and she absolutely achieved this for us. (…) I felt completely comfortable and relaxed throughout the shoot – and my husband did, too (which is a testament to Saskia as he usually doesn’t enjoy his photo being taken)! I’m so happy we made the decision to have a photoshoot, and that Saskia was the one to capture us.

Why documentary mini photoshoots?

These sessions are 1 hour long, shorter than my usual 3-hour documentary sessions, but created with the same thoughtful, unobtrusive approach. An hour is often more than enough to capture one or a couple of smaller and meaningful activities.

It might be playing together in the park, slow cuddles in bed before the day begins, breakfast in pyjamas with messy hair, or perhaps it’s weeding the garden and planting bulbs, making hot chocolate and baking cookies in a warm kitchen and reading a book curled up on the sofa.

There is no need to choose something impressive or particularly “photogenic.” The simplest moments are often the ones that carry the most meaning. What matters is that it feels like part of your real life, something that already belongs to you as a family.

Who this is for?

You want photographs that reflect your real life. The ordinary moments full of laughter, tenderness, occasional chaos, and the connection between all of you.
You want your kids to have photos that show what life truly felt like, and to see those memories come alive on your walls or in albums you can revisit for years to come.
You are often the one taking the photographs and you’re ready to exist in the frame too. To be a part of your family’s visual history.
You want images that reveal everyone’s personalities, their energy, humour, shyness, and uniqueness, rather than just smiles and poses.
You want someone who’s great with even the most reluctant participant (grown-ups included!).

This isn't for you if:

You’re not open to capturing the little imperfections — the sticky hands, the scattered toys, the flour on cheeks, or the slightly chaotic but real moments that tell your story. If this sounds like you, that’s completely okay, it just means this session probably isn’t the right fit.

If this feels like you, let’s create something special together:

I was aware of her style of photography being very natural shots to document a snapshot of our day but felt slightly apprehensive as to how natural we could be as a family knowing a camera was present! I needn’t have worried. From the moment Saskia arrived she put us very much at ease. We didn’t have to ignore her as I thought we might but rather just include her in our afternoon. (….)  She worked some magic and turned an ordinary Saturday afternoon into the extraordinary giving us beautiful memories to treasure.

How it Works

1. Booking a Session

You choose your preferred time slot and secure your booking with payment. Shortly afterwards, a contract will be sent to your email for you to sign.

Once everything is confirmed, you’ll receive a short questionnaire so I can begin to understand your family and what makes it unique. We’ll then arrange a relaxed 10–15 minute call to shape a session that reflects your traditions, routines, and the moments that matter most to you at this time of year.

2. We Spend Time Together

When I arrive, I’ll quickly put everyone at ease and remind you that this is meant to feel enjoyable, not stressful. I’m simply there to witness how wonderful your family already is and to create photographs that reflect it.

Your session will feel relaxed and unhurried, with you doing something you’d normally be doing and feels meaningful to you — no performances, no pressure, just your family as you are.

3. You See Your Story

Within six weeks, your gallery will be ready and presented in a beautiful slideshow set to music. Make a little moment of it. Sit together, press play on your slideshow, and revisit a slice of your life.

You’ll have five digital images included in your package, along with £25 print credit to use in the gallery store towards prints or albums. Take your time choosing your favourites, and if you find it too hard to narrow them down, you’ll have the option to upgrade and purchase additional images or the full gallery.

4. You Make It Yours

You’ll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album. With your print credit, you choose how your images live in your home, whether that’s on your walls, in albums, or as gifts for the people you love.

Hi, I’m Saskia

I’m a family photographer and filmmaker based in South-East London.

I look for connection, for gestures, for the small details that tell the real story of your family. I’m not interested in perfect poses or polished versions of life. I’m drawn to honesty — the tenderness, the chaos, the humour, the quiet in-between moments.

My hope is that the photographs we create together become part of your family history — images your children will one day look back on and remember not just how it looked, but how it felt.

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • What if my partner isn’t keen on having their photo taken?

This is very common and completely understandable.

My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive. There’s no pressure to pose or “perform.” Most partners who start the session feeling unsure end up forgetting I’m even holding a camera, because the focus is simply on being together as a family. Often, they’re the even ones who later say they’re most grateful the photos were taken.

  • What if my child isn’t in the mood or won’t cooperate?

There’s no such thing as “behaving” in my world.

Children are allowed to be excited, overwhelmed, shy, noisy, grumpy, or full of energy. All of those emotions are part of real life.

Because these sessions are documentary in style, no one is being asked to sit still or smile at the camera. Your child is free to be themselves, move naturally, and respond to the moment in their own way.

When children feel that freedom, they usually relax. And within the hour we spend together, I will be able to capture a wide range of expressions, including joy, connection or playfulness.

  • What happens if we can’t make it, someone is unwell, or the weather doesn’t cooperate?

Because these sessions are limited and seasonal, they are non-refundable. However, you’re very welcome to reschedule your session if you can no longer make your original date, subject to availability.

If you need to move your session, just get in touch as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to find you another suitable slot.

That said, with documentary photography, you don’t have to let illness or bad weather stop you. There’s still so much beauty to capture: the care you show for your child, the ways you support each other. If bad weather affects an outdoor session (for example, heavy rain at a local park), we’ll adapt by moving indoors and adjusting the plan. Real life doesn’t wait for perfect weather, and your photographs don’t need it either.

  • How does print credit work?

Your session includes £25 print credit, which can be used within your private gallery store. You can apply it towards professional prints, framed pieces, or albums. Many families choose to use it towards creating something tangible for their home, like a small album or prints to display on the wall.

You’re not limited to the credit amount; it simply gives you a starting point if you’d like to turn your photographs into something you can see, hold, and revisit for years to come.

  • Can grandparents or pets join the mini session?

Yes, of course! These sessions are about documenting your real life, and if that includes grandparents visiting, a dog weaving between your legs while you go about your day, or the cat curls up beside you, that’s absolutely part of your family story.

  • What if our home feels too small, too dark, or too untidy for photos?

Absolutely, I can still photograph there. Real homes are meant to be lived in. I don’t need large spaces or perfectly tidy rooms. I look for light, connection, and moments, not square footage.

Your home is an important part of your child’s story. It’s their safe space, the backdrop to their everyday memories, and the place where your routines and rituals unfold. Capturing it as it is now becomes part of what they’ll one day look back on and recognise as home.

  • Can I buy more images or upgrade to the full gallery?

Yes. Your mini session includes 5 digital images and £25 print credit, and you’re very welcome to upgrade once you’ve seen your gallery.

You can choose from the following options:

    10 images + £75 print credit
(5 additional images and £50 extra print credit)
    £150 upgrade

Full gallery (20+ images) + £150 print credit
(15+ additional images and £125 extra print credit)
    £250 upgrade

You can also purchase individual digital files if you prefer, though the upgrade collections are usually more cost-effective.

  • Why choose documentary family photography instead of a more traditional posed session?

Documentary photography captures how your life actually feels, not just how it looks.

Instead of styled backdrops and directed poses, you receive photographs of your real routines and interactions. The small details and gestures that make your family yours. I pay close attention to personalities, relationships, and the subtle dynamics between you.

Years from now, these images won’t simply show what you were wearing or how tidy the house looked. They’ll bring back the atmosphere, the way you moved around each other, the habits you didn’t even realise were meaningful, and the stage of life you were in at the time.

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to chat things through.
