Documentary photography for small & relaxed weddings in South-East London

Real moments. Genuine connection. Photographed so you can relive it all.

For couples who want to be present - not pulled away from their day.

Small weddings have a special kind of magic. Not because they’re quieter or simpler, but because they often leave more room for connection. More time for conversation. More space to really be with the people you love.

Documentary wedding photography simply means I photograph what’s already there. The gestures. The emotion. The relationships.

You will get emotive, timeless images without awkward posing or long photo sessions. Photos that don’t just show what the day looked like, but what it felt like. Your wedding day shouldn’t feel like one big photo shoot; it’s a gathering.

My role is to move alongside what’s already happening and notice real moments of pre-wedding nerves, the way your mom adjusts your necklace, a friend’s big laugh, the way your partner looks at you when you’re not watching.

If  you care more about being present than performing for the camera, you’re in the right place.

What is a small wedding?

Small weddings can take many shapes, and there’s no single “right” way to do them. The weddings I photograph usually have 30 people or less and are personal, unhurried, and rooted in real connection. That might look like:

  • A registry office ceremony followed by a long meal together
  • Getting dressed up at home with a ceremony in the garden
  • A pub wedding, a park ceremony restaurant gathering, or a dance celebration with the people you love
  • A weekday elopment wih only the two of you and your witnesses

What matters most is that it feels like your special day and that you’re able to enjoy it to the fullest.

Romantic and candid couple portrait photographed at a Town Hall wedding in London during documentary wedding session

We are sooo pleased with the amazing wedding photos Saskia created for us. We loved Saskia’s candid and natural family photography and thought it would be ideal for our small, intimate wedding. We weren’t disappointed. She worked tirelessly on the day and the pictures we received weren’t posed wedding shots but beautiful natural images that really captured the essence of the day with all its love and joy. I would highly recommend Saskia to anyone for a small intimate wedding or any other significant family occasion.

Who this is for?

You want real, heartfelt photos that capture your wedding exactly as it is: fun, intimate, and full of love and personality.
Being present matters more to you than following a strict photo schedule
You’re looking for images that will become heirlooms to be put in a photo album or hung on your wall.
You enjoy a relaxed and natural experience where you, your family and friends can feel comfortable and be yourselves.
You care about connection, atmosphere, more than everything being perfect.
You want someone who’s great with your friends and family and will feel like they are a natural part of your day.

This isn’t for you if:

You want perfectly posed, colour-coordinated, “picture-perfect” images with a long check-list of must have formal couple and group shots that will take up a big chunk of your day. And if that’s what you’d like then that’s completely okay. It just means I’m not the right photographer for you.

If this feels like you, let’s capture big memories of your day together:

Let’s Tell Your Story!

What to Expect

1. You reach out

Send me a message and we’ll arrange a no-pressure call.

If you decide to go ahead, I’ll send over a questionnaire so I can understand your plans, your priorities, and what matters most to you about the day. We’ll then have another conversation to shape the coverage around your timeline, your people, and the kind of moments you want remembered.

2. We Spend Time Together

When I arrive, my role is simple: to observe.

I won’t pull you away for long photo sessions or interrupt the flow of your celebration. Instead, I move alongside what’s already unfolding — the nerves before the ceremony, the way your partner squeezes your hand, the laughter of a friend.

Your wedding should feel like a gathering, not a photoshoot.

3. You Relive Your Day

Within four weeks, your gallery will be ready and delivered in a carefully curated slideshow set to music.Make a moment of it — pour a drink, sit together, press play, and return to the feeling of the day. The atmosphere. The people. The emotion. Afterwards, you can choose the photo collection that feels right for you.

4. You Make It Yours

Wedding photographs are meant to be lived with, not left on a hard drive.

With your print credit, you decide how your images take their place in your home. Whether that’s a fine art album that tells the story from beginning to end, framed prints on your walls, or gifts for family.

Photo Collections

What you choose to do with your images is the most important part, yet often the most overlooked.

Your time, love, and investment deserve more than photos hidden on a hard drive. You’ll never feel the same emotion through a screen as you will holding an album in your hands, seeing your children on the wall or sharing prints with grandparents.

This is why every collection includes a print credit, so your memories can live beautifully in your home.

Within 4 weeks of your wedding, you’ll receive a message letting you know your photos are ready. Grab some popcorn, get cosy, and watch your personalised slideshow — your own wedding unfolding on screen but through my lens this time.

You’ll then have 24 hours to choose one of three collections that feels right for
you.

Each collection includes:

A number of high-resolution digital photos

Print credit to spend in your gallery store (albums, prints, frames, keepsakes)

Collections start at £500

Nice to meet you, I’m Saskia

I’m a London-based documentary photographer specialising in small and relaxed weddings. My approach is calm, unobtrusive, and people-focused. I don’t stage moments or direct the day. I move alongside what’s already happening and look for connection, emotion, and the in-between gestures that often matter most. Creating images that feel timeless and true to your day.

More About Me

FAQs

Booking a wedding photographer can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • Will you take couple portraits and group photos?

Yes, it is possible to make space for a few relaxed couple portraits and the important group photos with your family and friends; however, this is not mandatory.

For the couple portraits, we’ll step away from the celebration for a short walk, often for 20 minutes, pause in a few places that look beautiful or feel right, and I give you small prompts rather than rigid poses.

Group photos are also absolutely possible, and they are often done within 15 minutes. Before the day, you can give me a list of the group shots you’d like, but I recommend not having more than 5 different ones.

  • Do you photograph non-traditional weddings?

Every couple celebrates their commitment in their own way, and I love photographing weddings that reflect that individuality. Whether you’re planning an elopement, an intimate celebration with a handful of loved ones, a big gathering that blends different cultures or traditions, or something that doesn’t follow the usual structure at all — I’m very happy to document it.

What matters most to me is the story of the day: the connection between you, the people who are there with you, and the atmosphere you’ve created together. My documentary approach works beautifully for all kinds of celebrations because it focuses on what is genuinely happening rather than trying to fit your day into a particular mould.

So whether your wedding takes place in a registry office, a garden, a family home, a place of worship, or somewhere completely unexpected, I’m there to capture it as it unfolds.

  • How much coverage do you offer for small weddings?

I offer flexible coverage for smaller weddings and elopements. My coverage for small weddings starts at two hours, which is often enough to photograph the ceremony itself, the arrivals beforehand, and some time afterwards with your guests. It usually also allows for a few portraits of the two of you if you want those.

If you’d like a little more of the day documented, like getting dressed or a celebration afterwards, additional hours can be added for £150 per hour. I offer up to five hours of coverage for small weddings in total. This keeps things flexible while still giving you the space to have your day documented thoughtfully.

  • Do you offer prints and albums?

Yes! Your wedding photographs are meant to be more than files on a screen. They’re meant to be held, revisited, and treasured for years.

When you book your wedding photography with me, your chosen collection comes with print credit, which you can use in your private online gallery store to order prints, framed pieces, or albums — it’s entirely up to you how you use it. Everything in the store is high quality, designed to last, and curated to showcase your story beautifully.

  • We’re not comfortable in front of the camera — is that okay?

Most of the couples I photograph say they don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. My approach is very relaxed and documentary-style, which means I’m not asking you to perform or constantly directing you throughout the day. For most of your wedding, I’m observing and photographing what naturally unfolds. The interactions with your friends and family, the small gestures, the laughter, the emotion.

  • Where are you based?

I’m based in Bromley, in South-East London, and I regularly photograph weddings across London, Kent and Surrey.

Many of the weddings I document take place in and around South London and the surrounding counties, but I’m always open to travelling further afield or abroad if you’re planning a destination wedding or celebrating somewhere meaningful to you.

If you’re unsure whether your location falls within my coverage, feel free to get in touch and tell me a little about your plans. I’ll happily let you know if it’s possible.
