Photographs For A Day Worth Going Back To

You’ve put so much into making this day happen. And when it does, it’s everything you hoped it would be.

The child who can’t take their eyes off the candles. The hug that lasts a little longer than expected. The moment everyone laughs at once. These are the moments that make your celebration yours, and they deserve to be kept.

That’s exactly what these photographs do. They show not just the moments you caught, but the ones you missed while you were busy being there. The relationships, emotions, the little moments and the faces of the people you love exactly as they are right now. Because the people you love won’t always look exactly like this — and that’s reason enough.

Your family celebration documented honestly, so the feeling of it travels with you into the future, and you can go back to that day whenever you want.

Saskia recently documented our 10 year wedding anniversary party, she was amazing to work with and produced beautiful photos. We wanted a casual photographer who could capture moments of fun, and we were lucky to find Saskia. She captured all our family and friends so well, and everyone was commenting on how lovely she was. Thank you for helping create memories and the wonderful photo album you helped me create too.

How I Approach Family Event Photography

Every family is different, and that’s exactly the point. The families who get the most out of this kind of photography are the ones who value feeling over perfection. Who want their photos to look like their family actually looks — chaotic, tender, joyful, funny, and completely themselves. Who have a partner who’d rather not be photographed, or kids who won’t sit still, or a celebration that refuses to run to schedule. None of that is a problem here.

What matters is that the day is documented honestly, with warmth, with attention, and with real care for the moments that make your celebration uniquely yours. If stiff group shots aren’t really your thing, and what you’re after is images that will mean something in ten, twenty, thirty years. Images that show how it actually felt to be your family right now, then you’re in the right place.

What I cover:

I work with businesses and organisations across a range of events, including:

Birthdays
Christenings, baptisms, and naming ceremonies
Bar and bat mitzvahs
Anniversaries
Family reunions or visits from family travelling from abroad
Cultural and religious gatherings

Whether it’s an intimate team meeting or a full-day conference, I adapt to the environment and work with what’s there.

This is not for you if:

You want heavily directed or studio-style images with formal group portraits throughout the day, I'm probably not the right fit, and that's okay.

If this feels like you, let’s capture your event together:

Excellent service from a wonderful photographer, delivered exactly what was required on the day, put everyone at ease and worked quietly behind the scenes taking beautiful unintrusive images of the event, really documenting this family occasion in a rather unique way. It brought a special angle to Mum’s birthday.

All the little details were captured, side conversations, glances, unguarded moments…all wonderfully preserved! Wholeheartedly recommend Portray Your Story.

What Working Together Is Like

1. You Reach Out

You send me a message to say you have a celebration you’d like photographed. We’ll set up a no-pressure discovery call to see if we’re a good fit. Once you book, you’ll receive a short questionnaire that helps me understand your event — who’s coming, what matters most, and any key moments I need to know about.

2. We Spend Time Together

On the day, I arrive ready to observe, not to direct. I’m a friendly presence rather than a silent shadow — I’ll chat, put people at ease, and make sure everyone feels comfortable around the camera. And then I get on with capturing everything as it unfolds, staying alert and making sure the moments that matter don’t get missed.

3. You See Your Celebration

Within four weeks you’ll receive a carefully edited gallery of images that feel true to the day.  I go through everything carefully, selecting the shots that best tell the story of your day. Focusing on the energy, the details, emotions and above all, the relationships.

4. You Use Your Images

These photos aren’t just for you, they’re for everyone in them. For the children who won’t remember the day but will one day hold the album. For the family members who couldn’t make it. For you, ten or twenty years from now, wanting to go back. Celebrations pass quickly, but the feeling of that day — the love, the togetherness, the laughter — deserves to be preserved properly. Print them, frame them, make them part of your family’s story.

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • Can you cover my event for more than two hours?

Absolutely. A lot of events need more than a couple of hours to tell the full story, from the setup and arrival through to the closing moments. If you need additional hours beyond the 2, I charge £150 per extra hour. For multi-day events, get in touch, and I’ll build a package around that.

  • Do I need to manage you on the day?

Not at all. I come prepared, having already talked through your schedule and priorities beforehand. I know what I’m looking for, and I’ll move through the space discreetly, so you can focus on your event and your people, and leave the photography to me.

  • Do you offer video and film as well as photography?

Yes, alongside event photography, I also work in documentary film. If you’d like both covered, that’s something we can absolutely discuss.

  • I’ve never hired an event photographer before. Where do I start?

Just send me a message. We’ll have a no-pressure discovery call to talk through your event, what you need, and whether we’re a good fit. No obligation, no jargon, but a straightforward conversation.

  • How long until I receive my family event images?

You’ll receive your edited gallery within four weeks of your event. If you have a specific deadline, let me know in advance, and we can talk through what’s possible.

  • What kinds of family events do you cover?

I work across a wide range of events, from birthdays, anniversaries, naming ceremonies, cultural and religious events, family reunions and funerals. If you’re not sure whether your event fits, just get in touch and ask.

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to chat things through.

Not ready to send me that message?

No problem. Grab a cup of tea and have a browse of the blog, or find out a bit more about me. I’ll be here when you’re ready.
