Hi, I’m Saskia, your London documentary photographer and filmmaker

I make photographs and films that feel like you. No stiff poses, no pretending — just honest images full of personality that show the beauty in real life. I’m based in South-East London and love working with families, businesses and charities all over the UK and beyond.

Photography That Tells Your Story

I don’t believe photos are about looking nice or being “perfect.” To me, they’re about identity and storytelling: who you are, who you love, and how you want to be remembered. They’re about connection — with your family, your clients, your community. And they’re about emotion — because photos can transport us back and make us feel.

I care deeply about the people I photograph. I’ll take the time to help you feel at ease, so you can simply be yourself. When you enjoy the process, the images reflect it: intimate, alive, full of personality and emotion.

More about me

An unexpected delight! Saskia was so friendly and warm right from the first contact – you can tell she really cares and loves what she does. So many personal touches throughout the process – you’re not just a one off customer. The photos are really beautiful – and so many to choose from! We will definitely be in touch with her for some more sessions in the future. Highly recommend.

And how about you?

You value honesty and authenticity. You want your personality — and that of others, to shine in your photos.
You believe in self-acceptance (wrinkles, curves, crooked nose and all) even if it’s a work in progress (I’m on this same journey).
You hate awkward posing, and want your photo session to be a relaxed and fun experience for all involved (including a reluctant partner!).
You’re rarely in photos yourself, but deep down you wish you could look back and see yourself in the moment.
You know there’s beauty in ordinary moments, When you see your pictures you want to look at real memories and adventures.
You know that perfection is a myth. What matters to you is what your family feels like. The connections, the love, the funny jokes, the emotions.
You want photos you’ll actually use — on your walls, in albums, or if you’re a business or charity in print, website, and socials.

Photos Hold Memories.

They bring back people, places, and moments that shaped us. The photographs you’ll see here are from my own life, and I share the stories behind them here — because photos and stories are deeply linked.

Me and my dad:

This picture was our last Christmas together. He died a few months later, when I was only four. I don’t have many memories of him, but these photographs gave me something tangible to hold onto. It is these pictures of him and our family that meant the world to me when I was growing up. They helped me grieve, and even today one hangs in my living room. It’s why I do what I do: to create photos that become part of your story!

Me and my mum:

She’s my constant. I love her lots!

My grandparents:

As a teenager, I wasn’t easy. At 16 I left home, and I went to live with my grandparents. My grandpa (Grootva) taught me life lessons I still carry: that our personalities are like onions, with layers we grow over time, and that life is like riding a bike — small adjustments keep you balanced, but sometimes you need a sharp turn to stay on course. I took this photo of them back then. They walked like this through the high street every single day. My Grootva pushing the wheelchair and chasing pigeons with childlike joy.

Uni days:

I’ve always loved studying (self-confessed course addict!). My studies in anthropology, African cultures, and documentary filmmaking completely changed how I see the world.

Reading to my kids:

I love reading books to my children. Whether laughing with my youngest over picture books or crying my way through The Brothers

Lionheart with my eldest, reading connects us — and helps me pass on Dutch (which they speak fluently!).

Adventures, big and small:

I love small and big adventures – hiking to a new playground with my kids, trying Korean buns at a local deli, biking with my family in the Netherlands to a farm shop to stroke cows or simply noticing how the leaves change colour in autumn.

Art and museums:

I’m a Tate member and adore exhibitions. If you do too,
consider this your invite to come along!

Life at home:

I’m a social introvert: I love being with people, but I need my alone time to function as a loving human. By evening, my introvert takes over, my patience wears thin, and I’m definitely not the best parent or partner. What I’m really saying is this: I get that life can be many things at once — full of love and chaos, patience and exhaustion, beauty and imperfection. Life, like us, is multilayered. That’s what I want to capture in photographs too.

Traditions:

I love traditions and festivities. One of my go to cakes is a delicious Dutch apple pie— and yes, I’ll happily share the recipe.
