For parents who want to gift their children the story of this Christmas

Christmas can feel full. Busy. Noisy. Magical. Overwhelming. Often all at once.

But within all of that are the moments you’ll miss one day. The flour-covered kitchen counters, the tangled lights, the serious concentration while hanging a bauble, the way your child insists on placing the star slightly wonky at the top of the tree.

These fun and relaxed Christmas photo sessions are about holding onto what makes Christmas truly yours.

They aren’t styled studio setups, and you won’t need to force smiles or stage moments for the sake of a photo.

Instead, they’re about photographing your real Christmas. Whatever that looks like in your home, however your family celebrates.

If you’d love natural, unposed Christmas photos of your family this year, I’d love to photograph your story:

Great photos and a lovely experience. The shoot felt relaxed and spontaneous, and Saskia’s documentary style captured our family beautifully.

Why Christmas mini sessions?

These sessions are 1 hour long, shorter than my usual 3-hour documentary sessions, but created with the same thoughtful, unobtrusive approach.

An hour is often more than enough to capture the heart of a tradition.  You don’t need to prepare anything elaborate. Simply choose something that already feels meaningful to your family. It might be picking out your Christmas tree, decorating it together at home, baking cookies or mince pies in a flour-covered kitchen, or making Christmas cards and decorations around the table. Perhaps it’s reading festive stories under a blanket, sharing hot chocolate after school, or any small ritual that feels like yours.

Who this is for?

You want real, heartfelt photographs that capture your Christmas exactly as it is: chaotic, tender, playful, and full of personality.
You value having everyone included in the frame, especially at this time of year. That means seeing yourself in the story too, so your children will one day remember not just the tree and the presents, but you beside them.
You’re drawn to images that will become part of your family’s personal Christmas story. Giving you heirlooms, your children may one day share with families of their own to show them what Christmas was like for them.
You enjoy a relaxed, natural experience where decorating, baking, crafting, or simply being together can unfold without pressure, and everyone can be themselves.
You want someone who’s great with even the most reluctant participant (grown-ups included!).

This isn't for you if:

You’re looking for traditional Christmas studio portraits with everyone lined up and smiling at the camera.
You’d prefer a polished, perfectly styled version of Christmas without the beautiful, real-life moments that come with it — the mess, the noise, a disagreements, and the wonderfully imperfect bits in between.

If this feels like you, let’s create something special together this Christmas:

My husband had reservations about it, but really enjoyed himself and didn’t find it awkward at all, which he had been worried about. The photos are absolutely stunning, relaxed, informal and tell a story, just what we wanted. Thoroughly recommend her!

How it Works

1. Booking a Session

You choose your preferred time slot and secure your booking with payment. Shortly afterwards, a contract will be sent to your email for you to sign.

Once everything is confirmed, you’ll receive a short questionnaire so I can begin to understand your family and what Christmas looks like in your home. We’ll then arrange a relaxed 10–15 minute call to shape a session that reflects your traditions, routines, and the moments that matter most to you at this time of year.

2. We Spend Time Together

When I arrive, I’ll quickly put everyone at ease and remind you that this is meant to feel enjoyable, not stressful. I’m simply there to witness how wonderful your family already is during this season and to create photographs that reflect it.

Your session will feel relaxed and unhurried, with you decorating, baking, crafting or simply being together just as you normally would at Christmas — no performances, no pressure, just your family as you are.

3. You See Your Story

Within six weeks, your gallery will be ready and presented in a beautiful slideshow set to music. Make a little moment of it. Sit together, press play on your slideshow, and revisit this Christmas just as it felt.

You’ll have five digital images included in your package, along with £25 print credit to use in the gallery store for prints or albums. Take your time choosing your favourites, and if you find it too hard to narrow them down (which often happens), you’ll have the option to upgrade and purchase additional images or the full gallery.

4. You Make It Yours

You’ll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album. With your print credit, you choose how your images live in your home, whether thats on your walls, in albums, or as gifts for the people you love.

I especially recommend creating a small album of your Christmas story. Something you can bring out each year, place beside the decorations, and revisit together as the seasons pass. Over time, it becomes part of the tradition itself.

Hi, I’m Saskia, Your Christmas Photographer

I’m a family photographer and filmmaker based in South-East London.

I look for connection, for gestures, for the small details that tell the real story of your family. I’m not interested in perfect poses or polished versions of life. I’m drawn to honesty — the tenderness, the chaos, the humour, the quiet in-between moments.

My hope is that the photographs we create together become part of your family history — images your children will one day look back on and remember not just how it looked, but how it felt.

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • Can grandparents, other family members, or pets join the session?

Yes, of course! These sessions are about documenting your real traditions, and if that includes grandparents visiting, or a dog weaving between legs while you decorate the tree, that’s absolutely part of the story.

  • What is print credit, and what can it be used for?

Your session includes £25 print credit, which can be used within your private gallery store. You can apply it towards professional prints, framed pieces or albums. Many families choose to put it towards a small Christmas album, something that becomes part of the decoration box and is brought out year after year.

You’re not limited to the credit amount; it simply gives you a starting point if you’d like to create something tangible.

  • What if I need to cancel, someone is unwell, or the weather is bad?

Because these Christmas mini sessions are limited and seasonal, bookings are non-refundable. However, you’re very welcome to reschedule your session if you can no longer make your original date, subject to availability.

If you need to move your session, just get in touch as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to find you another suitable slot.

That said, with documentary photography, you don’t have to let illness or bad weather stop you. There’s still so much beauty to capture: the care you show for your child, the ways you support each other. If bad weather affects an outdoor session (for example, heavy rain at a tree farm), we’ll adapt by moving indoors and adjusting the plan. Christmas doesn’t need perfect weather to be meaningful.

  • What if my child doesn’t “behave”?

There’s no such thing as “behaving” in my world.

Children are allowed to be excited, overwhelmed, shy, noisy, grumpy or loud. Those emotions are part of life, including Christmas.

Because these sessions are documentary, no one is being asked to sit still or smile at the camera. Your child is free to be themselves. This means a child will feel more comfortable, and I guarantee I will capture many emotions, including joy, fun, and silliness, within the hour I spend with you.

  • I’m worried that my home is too small, dark, or messy. Can you still photograph in our home?

Absolutely. Real homes are meant to be lived in, especially in December. I don’t need large spaces or perfectly tidy rooms. I look for light, connection, and moments, not square footage.

Your home is also an important part of your child’s story. It’s their safe space, the backdrop to their everyday memories, and the place where Christmas unfold and traditions take shape. Capturing it as it is now becomes part of what they’ll one day look back on and recognise as home.

  • What if my partner isn’t keen on having their photo taken?

This is very common and completely understandable.

My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive. There’s no pressure to pose or “perform.” Most partners who start the session feeling unsure end up forgetting I’m even holding a camera, because the focus is simply on being together as a family. Often, they’re the even ones who later say they’re most grateful the photos were taken.

  • What’s the advantage of choosing documentary family photography rather than a traditional Christmas shoot?

Documentary photography captures how your Christmas actually feels, not just how it looks.

Instead of styled backdrops and posed portraits, you receive photographs of your real traditions — the things that make your Christmas yours. I’m also paying attention to personalities, relationships, and the subtle dynamics between you.

Years from now, these images won’t simply show what you wore or how the tree was decorated. They’ll bring back the atmosphere, the rituals you returned to each December, the connection between you, and the stage of life you were in at the time.

  • Can I buy more images or upgrade to the full gallery?

Yes. Your mini session includes 5 digital images and £25 print credit, and you’re very welcome to upgrade once you’ve seen your gallery.

You can choose from the following options:

    10 images + £75 print credit
(5 additional images and £50 extra print credit)
    £150 upgrade

Full gallery (20+ images) + £150 print credit
(15+ additional images and £125 extra print credit)
    £250 upgrade

You can also purchase individual digital files if you prefer, though the upgrade collections are usually more cost-effective.
