Keep Hold of the Everyday

Think about an ordinary Saturday in your house. Pancakes that didn’t quite work. Someone still in pyjamas at noon. A walk that took twice as long because every puddle needed jumping in. It doesn’t feel special while it’s happening, but these are the days your children will remember.

My sessions are about keeping those days. No posing, no “look at me”, just your family being your family, with you in the photos too.

Children change so quickly. The gap-toothed grin, the favourite cuddly toy, the way they still reach for your hand when crossing the road won’t be here forever. I’d love to help you keep them, so that one day you can look back and remember exactly how it felt to be in the middle of it all.

Beckenham: Where Your Family's Story Happens

Beckenham is full of lovely spots, but the best one is always the one your family actually uses:

Kelsey Park: feeding the ducks, the lake and the playground

Beckenham Place Park: woodland walks, the lake and big open lawns

Beckenham High Street: your Saturday coffee, the library or a trip for ice cream

Cator Park and Croydon Road Recreation Ground: quieter spots for bikes, swings and picnics

Your home: the garden, the kitchen, the messy playroom

Not sure? That’s what our first chat is for. We’ll find the places that feel most like you.

This Is for You If…

You live in Beckenham, Shortlands, Elmers End, Eden Park or Park Langley.
You want photos of your family as it really is, with all its noise and love.
Someone in your family hates having their photo taken. With no posing at all, it's a much easier experience.
You'd like to be in the photos for once, rather than always taking them.
You want photographs you'll actually put on your wall and in a family album, not ones that end up forgotten on a hard drive.

It Might Not Be for You If…

You want a formal portrait with everyone perfectly posed and smiling. That's not how I work, but there are great photographers who do.

Ready to document your family exactly as they are? I’d love to hear from you:

Let’s Tell Your Story!

Professional, friendly, flexible on terms before and after the session. She captured the real essence of objects and people in a style that reflects the connection they have, rather than the way they want to be presented. Don’t expect her to be an “invisible” observer – our 3-year-old child still recalls fun moments of the session and calls her by name when we see each other in the street (hoping to get praised for some details that probably only a keen eye would notice :D). Everyone in the family agrees that the camera, instead of being an intrusion, was a catalyst; it brought and enhanced the humanity that our daily busy life might have flattened a bit. Highly recommended service, if this is what you are looking for.

I’ll spend roughly three hours with you. You go about your day and I’ll be in the background with my camera. Once everyone stops noticing me, the best photos start to happen.

I'm Saskia Albers, Your Beckenham Family Photographer

I believe that the photographs worth having are never the ones where everyone behaved.

I’m a documentary photographer and filmmaker, and I live right here in Shortlands, Bromley.

The most interesting stories are found in everyday life. I watch, I listen, and I wait for the moments that show who your family really is. I’m calm, patient and very hard to shock, so you never need to tidy up, dress up or put on a show for me. My hope is that when you look through your photos, you won’t just see what your family looked like, but remember how it felt to be together.

More About Me

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • How long is a family photo session?

Around three hours, and long enough for everyone to genuinely relax and be themselves. I will ask you to block out 4 hours in your diary to allow flexibility for unforeseen events and to give you a sense of not having somewhere else to be right after our photo session. This timeframe will truly give you a slice of your own life.

  • What if someone in our family is neurodivergent or finds cameras difficult?

Documentary photography is particularly well-suited to neurodivergent children and families. There’s no pressure to perform, no expectation to behave in a particular way. Sessions follow your child’s lead completely. Read more about how my documentary photo sessions will be the perfect fit: Neurodivergent Friendly Family Photography

  • How much does a family session cost?

The best way to find out if we’re the right fit is to start with a relaxed discovery call, a chance for me to hear about your family, what you’re hoping to capture, and the kind of photographs you’re drawn to. I’ll walk you through how I work, what the session involves, and what everything costs. No pressure, just a conversation. You can also find the session fee and starting collection price on the pricing page, and when you’re ready, get in touch to book your call.

  • What if my children won’t cooperate?

There’s no such thing as uncooperative in documentary photography. The tantrum, the silliness, the child who goes completely their own way — these are often the images families love most, because they’re so recognisably real. I make images that show your relationships, personalities and emotions. I’m a mum of two. Nothing surprises me. All emotions are welcome!

  • Can we change the date if we need to?

Yes. You can reschedule twice at no extra cost if someone’s unwell or the weather is awful. Please let me know as soon as you can. Once I’m on my way to you, the session can’t be cancelled.

  • Do you photograph families in Beckenham Place Park and Kelsey Park?

Yes, both are favourites. We can also combine a park with time at home, so you get a mix of indoor and outdoor photos. But any location is possible. The best place is one that fits your real life: the café you go to every Saturday, your nan’s garden or the swimming pool. If it’s something you normally enjoy doing together, it will make the most meaningful photos.
