9 Fun Photography Activities for Kids

Mar 13, 2023

Photography activities to entertain your kids with during the half term!

Another school holiday is around the corner. They come so incredibly quickly and often! It can be hard to think of how to entertain the kids at home. And often I am too late to book some of the events that are being held or I just do not want to spend the money.

So, to help all you lovely parents, I have created a free photography activity book for primary school kids. It has 9 fun activities for children to learn more about photography in a fun and playful way. And I bet that you will love doing the activities too!

After doing a photography activity for kids a child looks through a camera obscura made from household items.
One of the photography activities your kids can do is to make a camera obscura from household items.

What camera does my child need for these photography activities?

You can use any camera for these activities, from a phone, tablet, small point-and-shoot camera to a fun polaroid, whichever one is easiest and available.

What is in the photography activity book?

In this book there are 9 really fun activities for children from 5 years old. When they are small you can do it together with them, but older children will be able to do all of these activities without much help. Alongside all the activities the book has lots of tips and trick for taking better photos and for children to learn more about how their camera works.

Drawing with light is a wonderful photography activity for kids
One of the activities in the photography workbook for kids is drawing with light.

My 4 personal favourite activities in the photography activity book are:

  • Make a PHOTO TIME CAPSULE to look back a (couple of) year(s) later to remember what life was like back then.
  • Use your camera to make DRAW WITH LIGHT, by using a long exposure time and waving around (flash)lights.
  • Learn about how your eye and a camera works by making your own CAMERA OBSCURA using a Pringles can and other household items.
  • Make your own STOP MOTION FILM, by taking lots of photos of a scene that changes slightly with each image.

The other activities in the photography workbook are: taking a selfie, colouring in a camera, a photography wordsearch, a photography scavenger hunt and an assignment to photograph a day in your life with lots of tips and ideas.

I hope that this photography activity workbook will be a useful and fun resource for you and the kids this coming half term. Download your copy by filling in the form above.

I also have some other resources you might love. Have a look at the free downloadable Advent Calendar for family fun, and a Christmas photography scavenger hunt for kids.
