Every Family Has a Story Worth Keeping. Yours Is Happening Right Now.

The way your child stops to examine every interesting thing on a walk — the flower, the snail, the stick that absolutely has to come home and joins the growing pile by the front door that nobody can bring themselves to throw away. The chaos of a Sunday morning before anyone’s properly awake. Your teen giving you a big hug with arms that still need you, even when they’d never admit it.

This is your family. Full of personality, quirks, tenderness, and inside jokes that make it uniquely yours. And it’s worth photographing exactly as it is. That’s what a documentary family session captures — real stories, personalities and relationships honestly told.

Think of it as sending a gift to your future selves. The photographs we make together become a time machine. Your children will look back at these images one day to understand what life felt like growing up. The warmth, the mess, the love that shows up in a thousand ordinary ways every single day.

Bromley — The Right Location Is Wherever Your Story Already Takes Place

It’s not about finding a beautiful spot to take photographs — it’s about being in the locations that mean most to your family. The woods you walk through every weekend. The park your children could navigate blindfolded. Your home on a Saturday morning when nobody has anywhere to be. These places are already full of your family’s story. The session simply follows you there.

Woods & Parks — Scadbury Park, Hayes Common, Petts Wood, High Elms, Jubilee Country Park, Norman Park, Beckenham Place Park

Your Neighbourhood — the high street, the Sunday roast pub, the walk around the block

Your Home — cuddles in your bed in the morning, the sofa, the kitchen table, your garden, bathtime chaos.

Who this is for?

You live in or around Bromley.
You want family photographs where everyone looks like themselves, real and full of personality.
You know the ordinary moments are the ones worth keeping.
You want to be in the photographs too, not just behind the camera, but right in the middle of it all, exactly where you always are.
You want the whole experience to feel easy for everyone, including the ones who usually hate having their photo taken.
You want photographs you'll actually put on your wall and in a family album, not ones that end up forgotten on a hard drive.

This isn’t for you if:

You want perfectly posed, colour-coordinated, picture-perfect images where everyone smiles and looks at the camera at the same time. And if that's what you'd like, that's completely okay — it just means I'm probably not the right photographer for you.

Ready to document your family exactly as they are? I’d love to hear from you:

Let’s Tell Your Story!

Professional, friendly, flexible on terms before and after the session. She captured the real essence of objects and people in a style that reflects the connection they have, rather than the way they want to be presented. Don’t expect her to be an “invisible” observer – our 3-year-old child still recalls fun moments of the session and calls her by name when we see each other in the street (hoping to get praised for some details that probably only a keen eye would notice :D). Everyone in the family agrees that the camera, instead of being an intrusion, was a catalyst; it brought and enhanced the humanity that our daily busy life might have flattened a bit. Highly recommended service, if this is what you are looking for.

1. You Reach Out

Send a message, and we’ll set up a relaxed discovery call. It’s a chance for me to hear about your family, what you’re hoping to capture, and the kind of photographs you’re drawn to. 2. We Spend Time Together

On the day I turn up, settle in, and be a part of your life. Your family does what it normally does — I just happen to be there with my camera. Within the first twenty minutes, most people feel completely relaxed. I follow what’s happening and watch out for the moments, relationships and emotions that tell your story.

3. You See Your Story

Four weeks after your session, your gallery arrives, presented as a slideshow set to music. Don’t open it alone at your desk or on your phone, but make a moment of it. Sit together, press play, and relive your day. When you’re ready, you can choose the collection that feels right.

4. You Make It Yours

Photographs on a wall do something a screen never quite manages. With your print credit, you decide where your images live: framed above the sofa, bound in an album, or given as something the people in your family would treasure.

I'm Saskia Albers, your Bromley family photographer

I believe that the photographs worth having are never the ones where everyone behaved.

I’m a documentary photographer and filmmaker, and I live right here in Shortlands, Bromley.

I’m also a mum of two, which means I understand real family life from the inside — the chaos, the tenderness, the moments that pass so fast you barely catch them.

My sessions are relaxed and fun, and built entirely around your family’s rhythm. It will feel like a friend with a camera has joined you for the day, one who will never ask anyone to pose.

FAQs

Booking a photographer or filmmaker can bring up questions. Here are a few I’m often asked.

  • What if I need to cancel, or someone is unwell, or the weather is bad?

You can always reschedule your session up to two times at no extra cost, giving you flexibility if life gets in the way. Please let me know as soon as possible so I can free up your date for another family. However, once I’m already at the agreed location or on my way there, cancellation is no longer possible.

That said, with documentary photography, you don’t have to let illness or bad weather stop you. There’s still so much beauty to capture: the care you show for your child, the ways you support each other, and the little gestures or family rituals that reveal your bond. Jumping in puddles, running for cover, cosying up indoors. These honest, everyday moments can create heartfelt and timeless images. You can see an example of a session where we were caught in the rain here.

However, if you’d prefer everyone to be healthy and the weather to be good for the session, then it’s absolutely fine to postpone. Your family’s comfort comes first.

  • I’m worried that my home is too small/dark/messy for photos. Can you still take photographs in my home

Your home is where your life happens, and it’s a big part of your family’s story. I love photographing families in their own spaces because it’s where you feel comfortable and surrounded by memories and personal items. Small rooms, low light, or everyday clutter are absolutely no problem.  For more reasons why at-home sessions are amazing, check out my full article: At-Home Family Photo Session.

  • How long is a family photo session?

Around three hours, and long enough for everyone to genuinely relax and be themselves. I will ask you to block out 4 hours in your diary to allow flexibility for unforeseen events and to give you a sense of not having somewhere else to be right after our photo session. This timeframe will truly give you a slice of your own life.

  • What if someone in our family is neurodivergent or finds cameras difficult?

Documentary photography is particularly well-suited to neurodivergent children and families. There’s no pressure to perform, no expectation to behave in a particular way. Sessions follow your child’s lead completely. Read more about how my documentary photo sessions will be the perfect fit: Neurodivergent Friendly Family Photography

  • How much does a family session cost?

The best way to find out if we’re the right fit is to start with a relaxed discovery call, a chance for me to hear about your family, what you’re hoping to capture, and the kind of photographs you’re drawn to. I’ll walk you through how I work, what the session involves, and what everything costs. No pressure, just a conversation. You can also find the session fee and starting collection price on the pricing page, and when you’re ready, get in touch to book your call.

  • Do you work across the whole Bromley borough?

Yes, including Bromley town, Chislehurst, Petts Wood, Bickley, Hayes, West Wickham, Shortlands, Orpington, and the surrounding areas of South-East London. I’m based locally, so travelling within the borough is never an issue.

  • What if my children won’t cooperate?

There’s no such thing as uncooperative in documentary photography. The tantrum, the silliness, the child who goes completely their own way — these are often the images families love most, because they’re so recognisably real. I make images that show your relationships, personalities and emotions. I’m a mum of two. Nothing surprises me. All emotions are welcome!

  • How far in advance should I book?

A few weeks to a couple of months is ideal, though last-minute availability sometimes exists. If you have a specific season in mind — autumn in Petts Wood, spring in Scadbury Park — it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later

  • Do you offer mini family photo sessions in South-East London?

Yes, once or twice a year, I run mini family photography sessions across South-East London, which are a great option if you’d like a shorter, more affordable session. I also offer Christmas mini sessions each December, which are perfect for capturing your family’s festive traditions honestly and naturally — no matching outfits required.
